Building a website with WordPress is always my preferred option, and today I thought I’d share with you ‘why’.

User Friendly Website with WordPress

The term user-friendly doesn’t enjoy the mass use it did a decade or so ago, but it does describe WordPress best. Don’t get me wrong; for a novice, simply signing up and getting knee-deep in website with WordPress can be daunting and confusing. But it is easy for most people to learn, and the more you learn, the faster you learn more.  Once you’ve got a basic structure in place, adding and editing your website content is much like the common Microsoft Word type software that many people use on a daily basis.  So if you’re a novice – you might need to employ some help to set up the basics – and then try tackling the content side of things yourself!

Versatile – Choose Your Weapon!

Continuing on the ‘user-friendly’ theme, WordPress’ ability to customise for any industry gives it valuable versatility. Whatever you need it for, it can adapt — business, personal, e-commerce, bookings, blogs, galleries, portfolios, social media-style sites, pretty much anything you can think of.  Choose your style and you’re half way there.

If you don’t know exactly what you want the site to be capable of, you can start small and make it live. Then, over time, you can add functionality to create a bigger and more complex site more suited to your needs.

Its ability to easily integrate with external applications (such as bank payment gateways, point of sale software, Eventbrite, social media, and MailChimp) make it every Web Developers most efficient and valuable tool.

SEO Friendly

WordPress makes it really easy to nail your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). Especially if you incorporate one of the many SEO plugins available – such as the Yoast SEO plug-in.

You don’t need to understand everything about SEO; you just allow Yoast to guide you through the relevant fields such as metadata, alternate texts, keywords, etc.  It can be quite a simple task to get a basic handle on such a complex aspect of your website.

If a decent Google ranking is important to you (and it is, even if you don’t know it) but you don’t want to pay a fortune for SEO services, then a website with WordPress, combined with something like Yoast is definitely the place to start.

Robust – Like a Robot?

Although it’s not a common household name like say Google, WordPress has been around since 2003. So it’s had 15 years to evolve and fine tune, making it an extremely well-oiled machine these days.

This durability means it can cope with large sites, heavy traffic, high functionality, and more.  Having a website that looks good and works well is one thing.  But have you thought about what would happen if 100’s or 1000’s of people started visiting your site and using all the different functions at the same time?  It can be a bit like a bottle-neck in a traffic jam.  Sometimes the large amount of traffic can cause congestion and ultimately cause the website to grind to a halt.  A website built with WordPress has an edge over the rest – as its robust-ness (is that even a word..?) gives you a better head-start than the rest.

Secure Access – Like a Vault!

Not only is a website with WordPress secure, but its flexible security makes it easy for all users to operate while keeping risks low. Your site Admin can assign varying levels of access to different users. You have complete control over who has access to what, and what they can do when they’re in there.  You never have to give away complete access or compromise your security.

There are also security add-ons that can help protect your site from hackers. These add-ons send an alert to the site Admin when attacks are being made, allowing you to thwart them before any damage is done.  If your business or website data is important to you – then your best efforts should be spent setting it up the right way from the very beginning.

And on top of all this, the backup facilities are also easy and effective, and you can even hide the Admin portal making it harder for hackers to find.

But wait… There’s more!

I’ve only just touched on the sides of why WordPress is such a great option.  There’s also benefits like its GDPR compliance, no coding or technical experience required, free themes, built in blogs and so much more!!!
