Driving 2500km with a website
So this week I drove 2500km with a website! Ok – so the website was just sitting on a server for all the world to see, and I shared the drive with my partner, listening to Roald Dahl audio books of the BFG and Charlie and the Chocolate factory along the way.
So what’s my point? My business kept chugging along nicely, while I enjoyed some quality family time.
Taking a Break with a website
You might think that your small business doesn’t need a website – but does that mean that you never take a break? Do you only want your business to operate while you’re present? I’m guessing that you’d at the very least like to be able to take a small break every now and then, and assume that new clients could, at the very least, find out about your products and services without you having to hold their hand every second along the way.
Taking a break with a website set up the right way for your business is the best feeling in the world!
Still think you don’t need a website?
That’s the point in a website for people who think they don’t need one. It may not necessarily be about generating a gazillion new clients, but for those few genuine clients who just want to know more – they can get preliminary information without you having to lift a finger.
Even as I type this blog post – I’m sitting in the passenger seat. With the intermittent internet connection we’ve had across most of our trip, it’s been enough for me to be able to check and respond to emails. My website has been capturing these contacts in a database – so I’ll never have to worry about losing them, and for those that are genuine inquiries, I can use the database to maintain contact with them in the future.
Take it one step further
But let’s take it one step further. With a website built the right way – in line with your specific needs, your website becomes a tool for your clients. It can be a great way to provide more information to new potential clients – allowing them to download brochures, take surveys or just fill out a simple contact form so you can provide more detail later on down the track. The options are really only limited by yours (and your web designers) imagination.
And what about those! What about those ‘nocturnal’ clients out there! We all know them. Whether its due to work, family or other reasons, some people are awake at strange times of the day (or night!). Now I don’t know about you – but I’m not usually a fan of waking up 3am to answer general inquiries. Luckily – my website does that for me! There’s always bound to be someone out there googling about your products and services at times that you’re not available to speak with them directly. If you don’t have a website, you’ve lost those clients from the word go!
So, to all those businesses who don’t need a website to survive – we urge you to re-think your reasoning… With a website, your business can begin to transform from a manual monster reliant on your presence, to an automated admin tool, saving you time and making you money!
